Pāʻū
A Hawaiian Pāʻu Rider is a traditional horsewoman who participates in parades and cultural events in Hawaii, celebrating the islands' rich heritage and history. Dressed in elegant and elaborate pāʻū (skirts) that can measure up to 12 yards in length, these riders showcase their skill and grace while representing the distinct culture of Hawaii. The pāʻū costume is typically adorned with flowers and leis, highlighting the importance of Hawaiian flora. Pāʻu Riders honor ancient Hawaiian equestrian traditions and contribute to the preservation and promotion of Hawaiian culture through their participation in public ceremonies and festivities.
Our 2024 Parade Grand Marshal is Lahaina Strong,” shared Daryl Fujiwara, coordinator. Our committee would like to honor the resilience and spirit of the Lahaina community in the aftermath of the devastating fires. This recognition would celebrate their strength and unity during challenging times, serving as an inspiration to all. It highlights the community's ability to come together and rebuild, embodying the essence of the Nā Kamehameha celebrations.”
